CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Public bus service will resume Nov. 3 over the Dick Henderson Bridge that connects Nitro and St. Albans, Kanawha County transportation officials said.
The governing board for the Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority voted to restart service over the bridge at a regular meeting Thursday, according to KRT General Manager Denny Dawson.
KRT has not been able to use the bridge since August 2007, after state officials put weight restrictions on the 1930s-era span. The bridge was closed to traffic in January for construction of a new bridge deck.
State highways officials say work on the bridge is almost complete. The bridge is scheduled to reopen Nov. 1.
Dawson said bus routes designed to serve the Nitro and St. Albans areas while the bridge was closed will remain in service, but service across the bridge will be resumed. Route and schedule details will be posted on KRT's website, www.RideonKRT.com. The details will also be posted on KRT's Facebook page at the Laidley Street Transit Mall in Charleston and on KRT buses.
Printed copies of the new schedule will be available on all Nitro and Cross Lanes buses, Dawson said.
