Real Estate Central will have a fundraiser for its employees and for families who have been stricken with cancer, at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Charleston Brewing Co., 702 Quarrier St. All funds will be donated to the families. There will be live and silent auction items, live music, food, 50/50 raffle and lots of door prizes. Tickets cost $25 at the door.
Trail club hike
Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike Sunday on the Craig Branch Trail near the New River Gorge. Meet at 12:30 p.m. to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at the Arrowhead trailhead parking area. The hike is about 5 miles out and back on a gravel trail with some steep sections. There are some nice views of the New River and the gorge. Shorter version: Hike out and back as far as you like.
The Loved Ones Group is a free series for family, friends and others who are concerned about a loved one's drug or alcohol use. The series focuses on educating the loved one to identify addiction and develop effective approaches to help the person with a drug or drinking problem. Charleston Montessori School staff will introduce parents and interested community members to the unique materials and lessons found in a Montessori classroom that support the developing math minds of preschool through elementary students ages 3-12. This session of "Montessori Math" is for adults and will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Charleston Montessori School's primary classroom, on the upper level of the main education building at 805 Price St. This is the second in a series of adult education programs. Rand Community Center, 5701 Church Drive, Rand, is accepting candy and donations of money to provide a trick-or-treat party for neighborhood children. Those who donate will be given a paper notice to display on their door or gate to let the children know they should go to the center for their treats.
