CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Department of Health and Human Resources' Oral Health Program has received a five-year grant to provide preventative dental services in school-based settings.
DHHR Secretary Karen Bowling announced the grant Monday from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The $1.5 million grant will be spread over five years.
The funding will be used to implement a program to apply clear dental sealants to students in 109 schools over the life of the project. State dental director Dr. Jason Roush says those children might not otherwise receive preventative dental services.
The Oral Health program is working with the state Department of Education, local dental providers and other community partners on the project.
