Writer of Christian fiction to speak at library
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Marilyn Sue Shank, author of the book "Child of the Mountains" and a first-time writer of Christian fiction, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Cross Lanes Branch Library.
Shank's novel for young readers, set in rural West Virginia in 1953, recently won a Christy Award in the young-adult category. The Christy Awards event is an annual celebration of excellence in Christian fiction writing that was started in 1999 by nearly a dozen Christian publishers.
Shank will talk about the writing process and the experience of winning such a prestigious award. A book signing will follow her presentation. Light refreshments will be served.
Shank earned a doctorate in special education from the University of Kansas, where she majored in learning disabilities and behavior disorders and minored in counseling psychology and families with disabilities.
She has taught general and special education at elementary, secondary and college levels. Marilyn lives in West Virginia with her three rescued dogs.
