SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is lowering Summersville Lake to conduct basic maintenance and inspection of the intake gates.
The lake is expected to reach 1,520 feet above mean sea level on Nov. 4. That's 55 feet below the lake's normal winter pool level.
It will remain at that level for about two weeks.
The Register-Herald reports that the additional drawdown will reduce the lake's surface area to about 400 acres. The lake's normal winter pool surface area is 928 acres.
Winter boat launchings are closed until the lake is brought back to its normal winter pool.
