Charleston man sentenced for illegal firearm possession
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Charleston man was sentenced to federal prison Tuesday for illegally possessing a pistol.
U.S. District Judge John T. Copenhaver sentenced Anthony Dawson Jr., 30, to three years and one month in federal prison, according to a news release issued by U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin.
On Jan. 3, Dawson had possessed a 9-mm pistol and later pawned it for $400 at a pawnshop in Dunbar, according to the release. He pleaded guilty in July to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Dawson previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to deliver oxycodone in June 2009 in Kanawha County Circuit Court.
