Shots fired at house on West Side

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charleston police are looking for someone who shot at a house on the city's West Side on Thursday.

Sgt. Tony Hazelett of the Charleston Police Department said a man was in his home in the 400 block of Elm Street at about 8:45 p.m. when he heard a gunshot and a bullet crashed through his window. Hazelett said the man hit the floor as two more shots came through the door.

Police who arrived on the scene also found the passenger-side window of a van at the house also shattered by gunfire.

Hazelett said witnesses reported seeing a black man in dark clothing running away from the area at the time of the shooting.
