Man killed in interstate wreck near Big Chimney
BIG CHIMNEY, W.Va. -- A man died and a teenager was critically injured Wednesday morning after striking a concrete wall and falling over a barrier along Interstate 79 near Big Chimney.
James Hoover, of Big Chimney, was ejected from his 2006 Chevrolet Malibu at about 7:49 a.m., Kanawha County Sheriff's Department Cpl. Brian Humphreys said in a news release.
Firefighters from Clendenin and Pinch extracted Hoover's 13-year-old passenger. He was taken to CAMC General Hospital, where Humphreys said he remains in critical, but stable condition.
Hoover crashed into a concrete wall over Little Sandy Creek and skidded over it, Humphreys said. His car then fell over a concrete barrier.
Deputies believe black ice was a factor in the fatal crash and another crash that happened nearby, Humphreys said.
