Fayette man charged with attempted murder
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Fayette County man was charged with attempted murder and robbery in connection with a shooting in Hernshaw earlier this week.
On Wednesday, Roy G. Roe Jr., of Lens Creek Road, told West Virginia State Police that he had been shot in the back of the head after three men forced their way into his home, according to a criminal complaint on file in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
According to the complaint, two of the men were wearing masks and one wasn't. After searching the house and stealing about $600 from Roe's bedroom safe, the complaint says, the three men surrounded Roe in the kitchen. Roe told Trooper A.B. Wilson the man who wasn't wearing a mask shot him in the back of the head, according to the complaint.
Roe was treated at CAMC General Hospital and is expected to survive.
Troopers identified the shooting suspect as Zachariah N. Woodson, 26, of Boomer, the complaint said. The criminal complaint said Roe was able to pick Woodson's photograph out of a photo lineup.
Woodson was arrested Friday in Fayette County and transferred to Kanawha County for arraignment. He was in the South Central Regional Jail Friday afternoon with bail set at $150,000.
