CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A train hit and killed a man in Marmet early Sunday morning, Marmet police said.
Tony Canterbury, 45, was sitting on the tracks near the intersection of 98th Street and MacCorkle Avenue Southeast just after 4 a.m. Sunday, Inspector Paris Workman, of the Marmet Police Department said. Video shot from the approaching CSX train shows that Canterbury never moved as the train neared.
He was hit and pronounced dead on the scene.
Canterbury had a listed address in Belle, but was living in Chesapeake, Workman said.
Police are awaiting a report from the state medical examiner's office, Workman said.
A Metro 911 dispatcher said that they got a call from a CSX dispatcher saying that one of their engineers had struck a pedestrian that was sitting on the tracks.
CSX owns the tracks where the incident occurred.
It is the fourth time a pedestrian has been hit in that area in the last two years.
