McDowell hires architect for teacher housing project

WELCH, W.Va. -- Reconnecting McDowell has hired an architect to design housing for public schoolteachers in the county.

The public-private partnership plans to build a Teachers Village in downtown Welch.

Reconnecting McDowell said Community Housing Partners Design Studio will design the facility. The firm will present options to the partnership's board at its Dec. 17 meeting in Charleston. An option will be chosen after the meeting.

McDowell County Schools Superintendent Nelson Spencer told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that the project will be a tool for the county to recruit and retain teachers.
