CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- With an especially tight holiday budget, I chose to pull looks completely from my own closet and forgo the $25 spending limit.

The shoes for both looks are the shoes I wore at my wedding reception. With a stiletto heel and metallic gold sparkle, it is easy to relegate a pair of shoes like this to only one outfit. I want readers to know that it's OK to step outside their normal look and mix bold choices into otherwise conservative or traditional outfits, particularly during the holiday season.

For example, I took a classic cap-sleeved little black dress, a traditionally dressy yet conservative look, and spiced it up with bold pink jewelry and the gold shoes and bag.

I also wanted to show how you can transition those bold accessories to different, yet similar looks. This Forever 21 sequin clutch and Nine West shoes can give any simple dress the holiday glitz.

Adding in big statement pieces of costume jewelry gives your simplest dress a jolt of old Hollywood style.

Don't be afraid to mix and match up tones for a glamorous look. For example, with a sapphire strapless sheath, I chose to mix in big silver pieces from Icings and still use the gold clutch and shoes.

If you want more color, you can add a bright pashmina to give your outfit added appeal.

Choose a bright lip for a pop of color, and you're ready to party!
