Wood County Courthouse porch restoration complete

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- Two hand-carved limestone porches once again grace the front of the Wood County Courthouse.

The courthouse's original porches were removed during renovations in the early 1980s.

The Parkersburg News and Sentinel reports that David's Stone of Marietta, Ohio, installed the porches last week. The work included a stone rail on the top and bottom and balusters in-between.

Jim Miracle with the Wood County Historic Landmarks Commission says he's glad to see the courthouse being restored to its former configuration.

The courthouse was completed in 1899 and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

The West Virginia Courthouse Facilities Improvement Authority awarded a $28,400 grant to the county for the porch project.
