Barbour man arrested following hit-and-run
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Barbour County man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly hitting a pedestrian in neighboring Randolph County.
Matthew R. Blake, 32, from Junior, was driving a 1985 AMC Eagle along U.S. 219 in Beverly at about 4:30 p.m. Nov. 27 when he apparently ran off the side of the road and hit a pedestrian who was walking along the roadway, according to West Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous.
Blake fled the scene, but was found a short time later at the Elkins Walmart, Baylous said.
Blake was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a traffic crash with injuries, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. Blake was in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on Monday with bail set at $30,000.
The victim, Joseph Browning, 18, was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital. He remained in critical condition on Monday.
