LOGAN, W.Va. -- Logan County school bus drivers are handing out free smoke detectors to students, following a house fire that killed two children.
WSAZ-TV reported the drivers and school bus aide Rosemary Harvey have distributed hundreds of free smoke detectors to elementary school students. They plan to hand out detectors to middle school students next.
The group is working with the Logan City Fire Department on the project.
Fire Chief Scott Beckett said the area has more fatal fires that most parts of the state. He said the smoke detector project is progress.The Oct. 21 fire killed 3-year-old Dontarius Gardner and 4-year-old Shania Sidney. The State Fire Marshal's Office determined that the cause was electrical.
