Raleigh County man gets jail time for open dump
BECKLEY, W.Va. -- A Raleigh County man is serving 90 days in jail for operating an open dump.
Charles Keller was convicted in October and fined $300. Circuit Court Judge H.L. Kilpatrick also gave the 74-year-old Keller 60 days to clean up his property or face a jail sentence.
The Register-Herald reports that Kirkpatrick determined Thursday that Keller's cleanup effort wasn't sufficient. The judge told Keller that only 10 percent of the trash on the property has been removed.
Kirkpatrick also said he would release Keller from jail if he makes significant efforts through his family to clean up the property.
Keller is serving his sentence at the Southern Regional Jail.
