WVU alumnus endows safety management scholarship
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- A West Virginia University alumnus is endowing a scholarship for the school's engineering and mineral resources program.
The Morgantown school says Bill Powell has pledged $25,000 to fund scholarships for graduate students studying in the college's safety management program.
Powell is the vice president of member relations at AEGIS. The mutual insurance company provides liability and property coverage, as well as related risk management services, to the utility and energy industries.
The 1975 graduate says his career in safety management has been "very rewarding and wonderful'' and owes it to the education he received at WVU.
The gift was made to the WVU Foundation's $750 million fundraising effort.
