LYBURN, W.Va. -- Authorities have temporarily removed three dozen Logan County residents from their homes after a hillside gave way and cut off access to a road.
Media outlets report the Logan Emergency Ambulance Authority took residents by boat along the Guyandotte River to two area motels Wednesday. The Division of Highways is paying for their stay.
Residents were told of the voluntary evacuation plan at a community meeting Wednesday. Several dozen residents decided to remain in their homes. Many have use of all-terrain vehicles to move around the slip.
Over the next several weeks, authorities plan to build a temporary roadway access point to the area along a section of state Route 10 between Man and Logan.
