CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council is kicking off a fundraising effort for its new resource center in Charleston.

The group is launching the public phase of its fund raising effort. To date the group has raised $1.4 million dollars of the $6.2 million needed for the new Girl Scout and Volunteer Resource Center.

Officials say the 24,600 square foot facility has state-of-the-art meeting rooms and overnight accommodations for girls and volunteers within safely secured grounds, adequate green space and an outdoor fire pit.

Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council serves nearly 15,000 girls in 61 counties in West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
