CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two people have been arrested in connection with a robbery that left a man severely beaten earlier this week.
Christopher Estep, 26, of Huntington, and Chelsey Flavin, 23, of Ona, were arrested this week on robbery charges, said Cpl. Brian Humphreys, of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
Humphreys said John Miller, 33, of Cross Lanes, accepted a ride from Flavin about 6:30 p.m. Monday after meeting her at a shopping plaza in Cross Lanes.
Humphreys said Flavin drove Miller to a remote area of Old Goff Mountain Road, pulled over and got out of the car. She then opened the trunk.
Humphreys said Estep jumped out of the trunk and attacked Miller. Miller told deputies the couple made off with his wallet and other items.
Miller was covered with blood and had head injuries when deputies arrived, Humphreys said. He said Miller was unsteady on his feet and had a hard time being understood by deputies, which deputies attributed to his head injuries. Miller was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Cabell County authorities arrested Flavin on an unrelated charge, and she was expected to be charged with the Kanawha County robbery. Estep was picked up on a Kanawha County arrest warrant not long after.
Flavin and Estep were in the Western Regional Jail on Friday.
