Miscellaneous

The Achievers' Class of the Fifth Avenue Church of God in South Charleston will open its Clothes Closet from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 21. Clothes are free to families and individuals in need. Visitors should enter the church from the E Street side of the building. Free parking is available in the rear of the church. For more information, call Ruth Hunt at 304-744-5062.

Sharon Church of God on Cabin Creek in Dry Branch will operate a food and clothing pantry from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 21 at the church.

The Charleston Black Ministerial Alliances, in cooperation with the Partnership of African American Churches and Covenant House will give a Health Forum and Affordable Health Care Enrollment and Smoke Cessation presentation at 1 p.m. today at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 205 Donnally St., across from King Community Center. Lunch will be served at noon.

Music

The Believers will be singing at 6 p.m. on Sunday at Parsons Chapel Church, 1449 Sixth Ave., West Side.

Julie Adams and Steve Hill will perform a concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Timothy's in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, 3434 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted. They have recorded 5 CDs of their music and will feature several selections at the concert.

The Believers will sing at 11 a.m. Sunday at Parsons Chapel Church, 1449 Sixth Ave., West Side. The evening service begins at 6 p.m.

The Charleston Black Ministerial alliance is creating a community choir for a musical cantata for the Christmas story, "Emmanuel." Anyone wishing to volunteer to sing for the one-time musical is asked to contact the Rev. Roberta Smith at 304-549-2332 or e-mail: charlestoncbma@yahoo.com. The musical performance date is 6 p.m. Dec. 24, Christmas Eve.

Doug and Megan Paxton, will sing at 7 p.m. Monday at Lucy Wilson Baptist Church, Wills Creek, Elkview.

Holiday programs

The Charleston Baptist Temple Music Ministry will have its 52nd Annual Fest of Carols, "A Garland of Carols" at 5 p.m. Dec. 22 at the church, located on the corner of Morris and Quarrier streets. There will be pre-service instrumental music at 4:30 p.m., under the direction of Eddie Bucklen. A reception will follow. For information, call 304-346-9627 or visit www.chasbt.org.

Grace Church of the Nazarene will present Max Lucado's story, "Joseph's Prayer," at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 22 at the church, located at 499 Second Avenue and B Street, South Charleston. Reggie Parks will portray Joseph with special music by the Mountain State Brass Band. The production is directed and arranged by Pastor Lanz.

Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Runa, will present the "All I Want for Christmas" play at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the church, located on Lower Anglin's Creek Road in Mount Nebo.

Burke Memorial Methodist in Procious, Clay County, will present a Christmas program at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Featured will be a play titled, "Good Tidings of Great Joy," and lots of music.

A Christmas play will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 at Bickmore Baptist Church. Pastor is Timothy Young.

Alta Church of God will present a Christmas play at 6 p.m. Dec. 21 at the church. Paul E. Young is pastor.

Fisher Memorial Church will have a New Year's Eve Watch Night Service from 8 p.m. to midnight Dec. 31. The Rev. Earl Cochran, pastor of Fisher Chapel United Methodist Church and Pleasant View United Methodist Church will speak at 9:30 p.m. A fellowship hour will be held around 10 p.m. for refreshments in the Family Center. Services will return at 11 p.m. for the conclusion of the service in the sanctuary. The church bells will ring at midnight. The Choraliers, Freeman Newhouse, Jordan River Boys, Lathey Family, Saving Grace, The New Life Singers, Young Adult Singers, and Fisher Memorial Quarter and Choir will sing. Pastor is Aaron Finney. The Father's House, located at 500 29th Street, will present the Christmas play titled, "Papa Joe's Christmas Guest," at 6 p.m. Sunday during the worship service.

Central Community Tabernacle, 1340 Elmwood Ave., East End, will have a program sponsored by the Pastor's Aide Department at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Guest speaker will be Pastor Scott R. White, along with the Praise Team and congregation of Living Water Worship Centre, Charleston. Host pastor is Elder Carolyn Walker.

Goldtown Community Church's handbell choir, Ten 4 Him, will present two Christmas concerts Dec. 22. A concert will be held during the 11 a.m. worship service and the candlelight service at 6 p.m. This group of teens and young adults are in their seventh year of ringing together. The church is located 1/2 miles south of the Goldtown Exit of Interstate 77. Call 304-988-3757 for more information.

The cantata, "Emmanuel -- Celebrating Heaven's Child," will be performed at 6 p.m. Sunday at New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene in Pinch. The children's program, "Cookin' Up Christmas" will be presented at 11 a.m. on Dec. 22'

Special services

Guest speaker will be the Rev. Ricardo Flippin for the 11 a.m. Sunday service at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 442 McDonald St., South Charleston.

Good Shepherd Free Will Baptist Church will feature Pastor Jason C. Black as speaker at the 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday services. The Laborers Quartet will perform at 6 p.m. A prayer meeting and youth group meeting starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. The Good Shepherd Free Will Baptist Church is located at 5470 West Pea Ridge Road, Huntington. 

Blankenship Family will sing and Tim Oakes will speak at 6 p.m. Sunday at Meadowbrook Freewill Baptist Church.

Minister Antron Welch presents The Mountain Top Experience at 6 p.m. today at Dominion Harvest Fellowship, 504 Virginia St. W., Five Corners. Featured psalmists for the evening include Elder Mel Ashford of First Baptist Church of Charleston, Pastor Donte' Jackson of First Baptist Church of Huntington, and David Knox, of Abundant Life Ministries. Westside Church of The Nazarene, 1817 Seventh Ave., Charleston, West Side, will have New Year's Eve Watch Night Service beginning at 10 p.m. Dec. 31 at the church. Guest speaker will be Pastor Scott R. White along with Praise Team and congregation of Living Water Worship Centre, Charleston. Host pastor is Bishop Roy A. Welch Sr.

Living Water Worship Centre, 513 Patrick St., West Side, will have morning worship at noon Sunday. The speaker will be Elder Scott R. White. An Intercessory Prayer will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by the mid-week worship experience "Cleansed by the Word" at 7 p.m. For more information, call 304-989-6255.

Metropolitan Baptist Church will feature Pastoral Candidate the Rev. Ragland of Jackson, Tenn., at its 11 a.m. Sunday service.
