BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- Transportation officials are marking the opening of the administrative and maintenance facilities for the Bluefield Area Transit program.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was to be held Friday at the facility in Bluefield. West Virginia Secretary of Transportation Paul Mattox and U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall were to speak.
The public transit program serves Mercer and McDowell counties with routes into Bluefield, Princeton, Athens and Welch.
Mattox said after 95 years, the program continues the tradition of public transit service in the area.
Officials say the $3.9 million, 14,050-square-foot operations facility was paid through a competitive grant application process.
