Nearly 15,000 without electricity
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Heavy winds Saturday night and this morning knocked down trees and power lines and left almost 15,000 customers without electricity.
AEP's website lists about 8,740 customers without electricity this morning, while FirstEnergy - which serves much of the northern part of the state - listed about 6,590 without power.
Counties hardest hit included Kanawha County, with about 2,260 customers without power this morning; Roane County, with about 2,025 customers without electricity; Wayne County, with about 1,700 without power and Cabell County, with about 1,240 customers without electricity. In FirstEnergy's coverage area, Lewis County was hit hardest, with about 1,500 customers without power.
Small streams, creeks and rivers were swollen in much of the state this morning.
