• SpeakEasy Singles New Year's Eve Dance: This dance runs 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the West Virginia State University Wilson Student Union in Institute. It features music by DJ Randy Damron and party favors, as well as a midnight balloon drop (500 balloons) and toast. There will be a live feed from New York at midnight, too, in case you can't bear to ring in the year without watching the ball drop in the Big Apple.
Singles aren't the only ones welcome, though; the dance is also a reunion for old SpeakEasy members who are now married.

• The Empty Glass: Modern blues/folk act The Company Stores will kick off the party at 10 p.m. at the club, 410 Elizabeth St. The music will stop at midnight for a champagne toast, and admission also includes party favors for the celebration.
