KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - A family-run farm in Kearneysville is being recognized for its conservation efforts and management practices.
Meadow Green Farms has been named West Virginia's 2013 Conservation Farm of the Year.
Bill W. Grantham is the eighth generation of his family to manage the farm. He tells The Journal that he saw the competition as an opportunity to see what types of conservation measures other farms practice. He also wanted to highlight his own measures.
Grantham's efforts include planting more than 900 trees and shrubs and rotating grazing paddocks.
Meadow Green Farms is the third consecutive Eastern Panhandle farm to win the annual state award, and the fourth in the last six years.
