Kids' library countdown

The Kanawha County Public Library will host "Noon Year's Eve" from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the main library, 123 Capitol St., on the third floor. Children will count down to noon, while enjoying crafts, stories and New Year's traditions from around the world. For information, call the library at 304-343-4646.

Trail club hike

Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike Sunday at Beech and Gum Lick at Manilla Creek. Meet at 1:30 p.m. to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. The hike is about 4 miles on a mostly flat trail with several creek crossings.


Al-Anon holds open and free support get-togethers for those who have a family member or loved one with an addiction. Alateen meetings are for teens who deal with the alcoholism or drug addiction of a family member or friend. Al-Anon meets at 8 p.m. Tuesdays at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1105 Quarrier St.; noon Wednesdays at the Kanawha County Day Report Center, 900 Christopher St.; and 7 p.m. Thursdays at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Drive. Alateen meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church and noon Fridays at Christ Church United Methodist, Room 200, Quarrier and Morris streets. The Legacy Study Group meets at 7 p.m. Sundays at First Presbyterian Church, 508 Second Ave., South Charleston. For information, call 304-345-7420 or visit
