HAMLIN, W.Va. -- Crews for the Lincoln Public Service District successfully switched about 700 customers between Sumerco and Hamlin off West Virginia American Water onto the public service district's water plant on Coal River Road on Monday, PSD officials said.
Ron Gregory, chairman of the public service district's board of directors, said the customers were switched to West Virginia American Water two years ago for a planned water extension, but that pipes connecting the region to Lincoln's service area were still in place. He said crews shut down valves connecting the area to West Virginia American and reopened valves connecting the customers with the Lincoln PSD.
Water from the Lincoln PSD was tested by state officials and cleared for use, Gregory said. Customers involved in the switch were advised to flush their household water lines prior to use.
