Putnam PSD suspends credit card payments
SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. -- The Putnam Public Service District suspended accepting credit and debit cards as payment Thursday, after multiple PSD customers were determined to be victims of fraudulent schemes.
According to the Putnam PSD, officials there were advised by the Rock Branch Community Bank that while researching unusual purchases for several of its customers, it was found that each had recently made a payment to the PSD.
The agency has contacted the company that manages its payment gateway and was told it has not identified any breach of security in their system. The PSD has recommended that anyone who has made a water or sewer payment to the agency between Oct. 1 and Jan. 16 review their bank statements for suspicious activity.
