An Aug. 13, 2012, a Gazette-Mail story about Stasis Engineering's ties to convicted money launderer Osama El-Atari mischaracterized former Stasis Vice President Mike Firetti's association with El-Atari. Firetti did not manage El-Atari's investments. According to a bankruptcy filing, El-Atari wired about $3.1 million to Firetti in 2008 and 2009. El-Atari asked Firetti to act as an intermediary and invest the money in Qtrax Inc., a digital music service, according to the filing. Firetti said last week that he had no connection to El-Atari's fraudulent dealings, and that he appropriated the $3.1 million as directed.
A commentary in the Saturday Gazette-Mail misidentified Charleston lawyer Jim Lees. The commentary should have said Lees has represented DuPont in chemical pollution cases.
An article in the Saturday Gazette-Mail misspelled the name of a Pittsburgh bankruptcy lawyer. He is Bob Simons.
