Health insurance information sessions
State residents who are interested in learning how they might obtain health insurance under the provisions of the Affordable Care Act are invited to attend two presentations, at 10 a.m. Wednesday and at noon on Jan. 30, at the Charleston Family YMCA. TSG Consulting, working under a cooperative agreement with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, will provide information about how West Virginia's new health insurance exchange operates under the ACA. It also will show people how they can sign up for health insurance. There is no charge for this educational session. More information is available at www.ACAforRuralWV.com.
WV FREE Gala
The WV FREE Gala will feature Lynn Paltrow, executive director of the National Advocates for Pregnant Women, as its keynote speaker at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Woman's Club of Charleston. The Helaine Rotgin Champion for Choice Awards will also be presented at the event. The gala commemorates the anniversary of the landmark decision, Roe v. Wade. SUCCESStrategies will present The Miracle Brown Bag Lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 pm. Wednesday at Ferguson Enterprises, 160 Spring St. Learn to create deliciously healthy meals for work. April Hamilton of April's Kitchen will lead hands-on cooking demonstrations of healthy lunch option. The event is the third of four lunch and learns in January as part of Live Well Charlie West, a month-long Charleston Area Alliance campaign dedicated to workplace wellness. Easy salads, hearty soups and healthy wraps will be featured. Space is limited to the first 22 who register. The cost is $5 to attend. Call 304-340-4253 to register.
