Trial delayed for man accused of shooting daughter, son
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib postponed the trial of Roy Rodger Pittman Tuesday until Pittman's psychological testing is completed.
Pittman, 69, is accused of killing his adopted daughter with a shotgun before shooting his adopted son and turning the gun on himself.
He is now scheduled to go to trial May 5 to face a first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of his 15-year-old daughter, Brittany, according to assistant Kanawha County prosecutor Tera Salango. His trial had been scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Pittman is also charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding after the shootings on May 24, 2013, at his home on Keystone Drive near Charleston.
Police say the shootings happened after a family argument. Matthew Pittman was shot in the leg, but has recovered, according to police. Roy Pittman shot himself in the face when confronted by deputies, police said.
