Traveling sports exhibit kicking off tour of W.Va.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A traveling exhibit on the role of sports in American culture is kicking off in Parkersburg next month, the West Virginia Humanities Council says.
The council is sponsoring a state tour of the new Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit "Hometown Teams." It will begin Feb. 9 at the Parkersburg Art Center.
Officials selected six museums and cultural and community organizations to host the exhibit and provide public programs about their local sports culture.
The other sites selected are: Larry Joe Harless Community Center, in Gilbert; Preston County Sports Museum; Randolph County Community Arts Center; Weirton Area Museum & Cultural Center; and Morgantown History Museum.
