Richwood police officer stole prescription pills from evidence locker, State Police say

RICHWOOD, W.Va. -- State Police in Nicholas County arrested a Richwood cop for allegedly breaking into an evidence room and stealing hydrocodone.

Gerald Paul Tinney Jr., 42, of Craigsville, was charged with breaking and entering and delivery of a controlled substance, according to a news release issued by State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous.

On Dec. 26, Tinney and another suspect allegedly entered the Richwood Police Department's evidence room and stole 30 hydrocodone pills. Tinney was a police officer in Richwood at the time, according to the release. State Police would also arrest the second suspect, Baylous said.

Tinney is currently being held in Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $35,000 bail.
