St. Albans woman was stabbed to death
A St. Albans woman found dead in her Jefferson Avenue home Sunday was stabbed to death, police say.
Neighbors found the body of Nancy Burdette Lynch, 66, on Sunday, according to Capt. James Agee of the St. Albans Police Department. State medical examiners determined Lynch had been stabbed, he said.
Police are now treating Lynch's death as a murder investigation. He said two people allegedly found with jewelry and a car stolen from Lynch's home are being treated as persons of interest in the stabbing and may face further charges.
Agee said Megan M. Hughes, 27, of St. Albans was charged with transferring and receiving stolen property after allegedly pawning jewelry stolen from Lynch's home. Hughes was allegedly found with her boyfriend, Timothy P. Shafer, 28, of St. Albans, in a 2008 Toyota Camry stolen from Lynch's house, Agee said.
A second car, a 1991 Toyota Camry, was found in Sissonville, Agee said. That vehicle had also been stolen from Lynch's house.
Shafer was charged possession of a stolen vehicle, Agee said.
Both Hughes and Shafer were in the South Central Regional Jail on Wednesday.
