Family support group
The Alzheimer's Association, West Virginia Chapter, will host a Family Support Group meeting at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the Association's office, 1601 Second Ave. The group is for individuals who have a loved one with Alzheimer's disease or dementia and caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia. The support group meets the same time and location on the first Wednesday of the month. For more information, call 800-272-3900.
Free health screenings
The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy will hold free health screenings and host a guest speaker as part of the American Heart Association's National Wear Red Day from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday on the first floor of the UC School of Pharmacy Building in Room 105, as well as in the PharmUC Patient Care Clinic. The UC School of Pharmacy will provide free blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI) checks, as well as a My Life Check Health Assessment and a customized personal medication chart. Dr. Sarah Nease, a cardiovascular disease specialist at CAMC, will speak at 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and all attendees will receive a commemorative Go Red dress pin. Free movie night
Unity of Kanawha Valley will host its monthly free Movie Night at 6 p.m. Friday at 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Myrtle and Bridge roads. Bring food to share. Food sharing begins at 6 p.m. with the movie starting at 6:30 p.m. This month's movie is "The King's Speech" (rated PG-13), an award-winning movie starring Colin Firth. The St. Albans Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at 404 Fourth Ave. Jim Butler give a presentation on the construction of the new St. Albans-Nitro Bridge and photos taken from his remote control plane. Refreshments will follow.
