CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Charleston man allegedly robbed a bank on the city's West Side this morning, but was caught a few minutes later.
Basil Smith, of Seventh Avenue, robbed the WesBanco on Tennessee Avenue around 9 a.m., according to Charleston police.
Smith, who was wearing a purple jacket and a McDonald's hat, fled the bank on foot. Police say they found him on Monongalia Street, heading toward Kanawha Boulevard, about five minutes after the robbery.
Smith had the money from the robbery on him, police said. They said he did not show a weapon during the robbery.
A Charleston Police Department cruiser was involved in a minor accident with another vehicle at the intersection of Tennessee Avenue and Virginia Street West, near the bank.
