WESTON, W.Va. -- A Lewis County prosecutor says one of two suspects in the 1999 disappearance of a mother and daughter has agreed to a plea deal.
David Hughes, 58, of Archbold, Ohio, is charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Lewis County Assistant Prosecutor Brian Bailey told The Exponent Telegram that Hughes has agreed to plead guilty to the conspiracy charge in exchange for cooperation against co-defendant Joseph Metz of Horner.
Bailey said prosecutors would recommend a suspended sentence of one to five years and five years probation for Hughes.
Metz, now 39, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of his 46-year-old mother, Mary Friend, and his grandmother, Maxine Stalnaker, 69, both of Jane Lew.
The women's bodies have not been found.
