MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Maryland woman has been sentenced to up to five years in prison for child neglect.
Jasmine K. Dawkins, 24, of Waldorf, Md., was sentenced Thursday in Berkeley County Circuit Court, media outlets reported.
A jury convicted Dawkins in November on two counts of child neglect and one count of providing false information to medical personnel. Jurors found Dawkins not guilty of death of a child by parent, guardian or custodian by child abuse.
The charges stem from the New Year's Day 2012 death of Kaiwon Connelly, 3.
Police say the boy suffered a fractured skull and other injuries.
The boy's father, James N. Mauldin, 22, of Martinsburg, is scheduled to stand trial March 4.
