The program is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and lawful permanent residents who have not been convicted of major felonies.
Airlines participating in the program include American, Delta, United, US Airways, Southwest, JetBlue, Hawaiian, Alaska and Virgin America.
McKinney said more than 50 centers like the one in South Charleston have opened so far. "We usually open them in existing buildings, but some are located in airports," he said.
The South Charleston center is located in Riverwalk Mall in the Universal Enrollment Center building, next to the U.S. Air Force recruiting office.
A similar center also opened this week in Huntington, McKinney said.
