"That's the whole thing in a nutshell -- it's just a big inconvenience," she said. "If they'd have thought this whole process through -- it may be different for residential for 911 to find you, but if you're a business on Teays Valley Road and they can't find you, they're in bad shape."
Custom Script is licensed with pharmacy boards in Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia. Wallace said the pharmacy's West Virginia license affects the status of its other three, as well as its U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration permit, which it must have to order controlled substances.
The business is in the middle of six different accreditations through one company, and because Custom Script's pharmacy identification numbers and Medicaid identification numbers will change, the accreditation process has been delayed, which will further delay contracting for the home infusion side of the business.
"We moved here specifically to be able to have the space to open the home infusion and the long-term-care side," Wallace said. "Putnam County has not been very business-friendly. I'm not sure who made the decision to do the 911 address changes, but it was done, in my opinion, without any regard to the negative impact on businesses."
Veda Freeman, who lives on Teays Valley Road just outside Hurricane city limits, said she believes her home is one of about 20 residences remaining on the road -- the rest are businesses.
"Everyone knows where Teays Valley Road is, so just to change the numbers here seems ridiculous," she said. "There really aren't that many lots left to sell, either."
Freeman said she has been passing out fliers to local residents and businesses about Thursday's meeting. Wallace said he has spoken to several affected business owners, and many plan to attend the meeting.
"I can only imagine that anyone with any state licenses or permits will be impacted," Wallace said. "There's a process you have to undertake to make those changes, and for us, it's monumental."
