Children's Home Society fundraiser
Recovery Sports Grill will host "Dining to Donate" in support of the Children's Home Society of West Virginia from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 25 at its location, 600 Kanawha Blvd. E. For each flyer that is brought in, 15 percent of that check will be donated to the Children's Home Society Charleston site. Sissonville Lions Club
The Sissonville Lions Club will have a special program from 6:30 to around 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 6823 Sissonville Drive. Kerri Wade, WVU Extension Service agent, will discuss plans for "Revitalizing Camp Virgil Tate." For reservations, call 304-965-7100.
Kanawha County Public Library will have a film screening for "Freedom Riders" at 6 p.m. Monday at the Main Library, 123 Capitol St. The film tells the story of a time when white and black volunteers rode a bus into the Deep South and risked being jailed, beaten or killed as white local and state authorities ignored or encouraged violent attack. The follow-up film discussion will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Marmet Women's Club. The discussion leader will be Joan Browning, writer, human rights advocate and one of the nine Albany Freedom Riders on Dec. 10, 1961.
