CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin ordered all U.S. and state flags lowered to half-staff Saturday at the Capitol and in Kanawha County in memory of former West Virginia State University President Hazo Carter.
Carter, who served 25 years as president of the school, died Tuesday at the age of 67.
Flags will be flown at half-staff from dawn to dusk. Carter's funeral will be 5 p.m. Saturday at Ferrell Hall on the WVSU campus in Institute. Viewing is at 4 p.m.
Kanawha County Commissioner Hoppy Shores had previously ordered all flags lowered at the County Courthouse and at county agencies.
