CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A convicted felon from Charleston pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to illegally possessing firearms.
Kerry A. Drake, 45, led police on a chase from St. Albans to South Charleston last September after an attempted traffic stop, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin's office.
After Drake's engine malfunctioned, police found found a Bushmaster .223 rifle and an Ithaca shotgun in his car. Both had been reported as stolen.
Drake pleaded guilty in front of U.S. District Judge Thomas Johnston, and faces up to 10 years in federal prison when sentenced on June 2.
A passenger in Drake's car, Lucas Lynch, bailed out of the car during the chase. Lynch has been indicted on federal charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
