Fayette woman forged doctor excuses, police say

By Staff reports

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- Fayette County sheriff's deputies have arrested a woman who allegedly forged doctor's excuses to avoid truancy charges against her.

Nancy Renee Tucker-Schoolcraft, 40, of Smithers, was charged with four counts of forgery on Wednesday, according to a news release from Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler.

Tucker-Schoolcraft allegedly gave a truancy officer several doctors' excuses during a hearing about her child's absences from school. The truancy officer could not verify the excuses and later asked sheriff's deputies to investigate.

"As a result of her efforts to avoid this misdemeanor charge of truancy, Ms. Tucker-Schoolcraft now faces four felony charges," Kessler said in the release.

Tucker-Schoolcraft was arraigned Wednesday in Fayette County Magistrate Court and released on a $10,000 bond.
