CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Boone County man is dead after a two-vehicle crash on W.Va. 94 near Racine Monday morning.
Boone County Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at around 9:30 a.m. According to the investigating officer's preliminary report from the crash scene, Travis Dewayne Clendenin, 31, of Peytona, was driving southbound on W.Va. 94, just north of Racine.
Johnny Fauch, Jr., 36, of Williamson, was driving a tractor-trailer carrying steel railroad rails northbound on W.Va. 94. Investigators believe Clendenin's vehicle crossed the centerline of the road and hit the tractor-trailer head on.
Clendenin was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither Fauch, nor the passenger in the vehicle was injured in the crash.
Investigators believe Clendenin may have fallen asleep at the wheel, which could have caused the crash, according to the sheriff's department.
W.Va. 94 was shut down for an extended period Monday morning while fire department crews cut Clendenin from the vehicle.
The investigation of the crash is continuing by Deputy B.G. Browning.
