Consol Energy CEO Brett Harvey's compensation rose nearly 13 percent to $8.46 million last year as the Pittsburgh-based coal mine operator's share price more than doubled.
Harvey's total compensation was valued at $7.5 million in 2006.
Consol detailed Harvey's compensation in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Thursday. The bulk of his increase came from $5.84 million worth of stock awards. Consol also bumped up Harvey's salary 4.17 percent to $996,000.
Consol's stock price soared more than 138 percent to $71.43 last year. Profits, however, dropped to $267.8 million, or $1.45 per share, compared with $408.9 million, or $2.20 per share in 2006.
Consol mines coal in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Utah, Kentucky and Ohio.
