CHESTER, W.Va. -- Gambling casino and racetrack owner MTR Gaming's third-quarter loss soared nearly 190 percent despite a double-digit revenue gain.
The Chester-based company said today it lost $8.2 million, or 30 cents per share, in the period, including $11.2 million in pretax, non-cash charges. MTR lost $2.8 million, or 10 cents per share, in the same period a year ago, including $3.6 million from discontinued operations.
Net revenue increased 13 percent to $131.4 million, from $116 million in third-quarter 2007. MTR credited the addition of poker and other table games at its Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort in Chester and Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Erie, Pa., for the higher revenue.
MTR also owns or has interests in tracks in Ohio, Michigan and Minnesota.
