Groups plan e-mail protest of W.Va. mine
Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Several groups say they will expand their protest against a Massey Energy mine in Southern West Virginia through e-mail.

The groups, which include The Sierra Club, Alliance for Appalachia and Greenpeace, say they would send more than 500,000 e-mails to individuals Thursday and Friday to press their campaign to halt Massey's mining operation on Coal River Mountain.

The groups say the mountain should be preserved as a wind farm and not mined for its coal reserves.

They want President Obama and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to step in and stop the mining.

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin has said he won't interfere because Massey has valid state permits to mine the mountain.

These environmentalist groups are like leeches, vampires draining the blood out of one victim and then going to the next. I guess their families are going to come out of the woodwork now. I can hear the constant noise of those windmills whooshing in the wind and the dead animals left behind from one of those blades swinging in the air. This is environmentalist's job security, after they try to run off the coal miner, they will go after the companies putting up the windmills and then who will fall prey to them after that. When will it stop?

Whn regulatory agencies interfere with mining permits, Manchin goes to Washington and pounds on the table. When the agencies isue decisions that eliminate the potential for a wind farm, Manchin says he will not interfere with those agency decisions. I think the permits should be suspended because the out-of-state mining company at Coal River Mountain is destroying the sites where a wind farm could be built, and costing long-term jobs for the local community.
