CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Charleston police arrested a Jackson County man they believe robbed a West Side convenience store early Monday.
Sgt. Eric Hodges of the Charleston Police Department said a man walked into the 7-Eleven convenience store at 841 Washington St., W. about 3:45 a.m. The man held his hands under his clothes as if he had a gun and demanded cash.
The man then made off on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Hodges said police caught up with him within 25 minutes in the 800 block of Hunt Avenue.
Police arrested 34-year-old Walter Cavender of Ravenswood and charged him with first-degree robbery. Cavender was in Kanawha Magistrate Court on Monday morning awaiting arraignment.
