CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- As the wonders of 3-D printing technology continue to advance, you can own a little piece of 3-D history and make a donation to charity at the same time.
The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing is using its 3-D printer to create 100 limited-edition holiday ornaments for the Gazette and Daily Mail.
The ornament recalls the state Capitol -- and the sky around it adorned with fireworks -- amid the celebration of the state's sesquicentennial in June.
The cost to own one of the ornaments is $15 (plus $3.50 shipping and handling). The proceeds will be split between the Gazette Charities Christmas Fund and the Daily Mail's Neediest Cases Appeal.
Orders will be taken online at wvgazette.com or dailymail.com. Starting Friday, we will also have the ornaments available for purchase at our front desk, at 1001 Virginia St. E. (the corner of Virginia and McFarland streets in Charleston).
